Phoenix

the owner of a struggling company has incorporated a fresh same-trade company — the pre-pack playbook; creditors of the old shell should move now

the signature — what the register must show
the controlling owner (exact/high person match) of a company carrying a distress badge (Z distress / stable zombie / hidden distress / slow bleed / recap) holds ≥25% of ANOTHER company in the same SIC division incorporated within ~18 months

Why it matters

A struggling company plus a fresh same-trade vehicle under the same owner is the pre-pack playbook: assets and goodwill migrate to the newco, liabilities stay behind. Perfectly legal when done properly — and always worth knowing about a year early.

The play

For creditors of the old company: act before the migration completes. For advisers: the owner needs restructuring counsel NOW. Not a lead to finance the old entity.

How it's kept honest

The badge is recomputed nightly across the whole index, and re-evaluated live the moment a company files — so a match is always a statement about the current register, not a stale list. Like every signal on the radar: a prompt to look closer, never a verdict.
